The history of the Bottrill family goes back to before the Norman Conquest. The Boterel family can now be found in Australia, America,Canada, and many counties in England - Yorkshire, Northamptonshire, Shropshire and London. The history of the family can be followed in a series of historical novels, the first being 'The king's toads'.

HOW THE BOTTRILL FAMILY HAS SPREAD!
HOW THE BOTTRILL FAMILY HAS SPREAD!
The Boterel family has certainly spread over the centuries and, although some branches have died out, they have left their mark.
Boscastle in Cornwall was named after Nicholas Boterel in 11th century - Aston Boterell in Shropshire similarly.
I haven't found any Boterel place names in Brittany, although the family still exists there. But in Catalonia, Spain, there is a town called Botarell where Sir Ralph Boterel died at the end of the Hundred Years' War.
The farthest-flung place is Bottrill Head in Antarctica! (67°42′S 66°57′W) It's an expanse of cliffs on the end of the German Peninsula west of Graham Land.
