BOTTRILL COAT OF ARMS

BOTTRILL COAT OF ARMS.

The original one was argent, three toads erect sable - as shown in an earlier blog. Some say these are also the arms of Satan, though why Satan should need arms, and who granted them to him, is not explained.

Later Boterels bore different arms- each generation could choose his own.

But with the rise of interest in genealogy, many companies now offer to provide you with 'the genuine Bottrill arms' plus a pseudo history for a fee. The design varies depending on the company, and I haven't traced any of them to any of the actual family branches.

SITES OF THE ORIGINAL BOTTRILL FAMILY

SITES OF THE ORIGINAL BOTTRILL FAMILY

The book - 'The king's toads' - (see bottrillfamilyhistory.com), is about the original Bottrill family - your ancestors. It contains maps showing the various castle, towns etc that we once owned in England. You might also visit Hastings and the site of the famous battle that made us.

You can visit all of them, but you need to plan your trip and do your homework - the family did spread. You should really also plan to tour Normandy and Brittany (where we came from), and of course the family tombs.
